TWO DATES TO KEEP!!

JULY 9, 2010 Understanding by Design: Infusing College and Career Readiness Standards in Science Classrooms

Omni Bayfront Hotel, Corpus Christi

Noon - 6pm

This professional development session will incorporate elements from Understanding by Design (Wiggins and McTighe, 2005), How People Learn (National Research Council, 1999) and the Science College and Career Readiness Standards. Participants are to bring a science classroom lesson that they know they will be using during the Fall, 2010 semester - one that has a hands-on component (laboratory, for example), is alinged with the TEKS and needs more work, i.e., is not at a satisfactory ibstructional level. We will be taking that lesson and redesigning it to incorporate the above. In additionm we will be devising a classroom action research plan where participants will assess the effectiveness of the lesson and report the results to the PD leader. Please note participants will receive a $500.00 stipend to be disbursed upon receipt of assessment results/evaluation.

We will provide a light lunch beginning at 11:30am, continuining until 1pm. The workshop will begin at noon and be followed by a dinner at 5pm. Hotel accommodations for either July 8-9 or July 9-10 will be provided at the Omni Bayfront Hotel in Corpus Christi. Travel by air or car will be reimbursed.

The registration website will be announced shortly. Contact Sylvia Atkinson, 361.825.2142, sylvia.atkinson@tamucc.edu for questions about registration, accommodations or travel. Contact Cherie McCollough, 361.825.3166, cherie.mccollough@tamucc.edu for any questions about the workshop.
